PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Get ready to twist and twirl, Port Washington — a new studio has opened up on Main Street.

Owner Paul Ru, who has operated a similar studio in Queens for the last 15 years and now lives above his new dance pad, told Patch at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday that his goal is to get locals moving with some basic steps.

"We're going to welcome everyone together with a chance to get on the dance floor and make them move," he said.

At 284 Main St., the studio sits across from the well-known Mediterranean eatery Ayhan's Shish-Kebab Restaurant. Ru said all ages and dance skills are welcome — he'll even teach kids as young as 3 years old. You just have to like to move and like music.

"We don't care about your level, we care about participation" he said.

Studio teachers offer 20 types of dance classes. Ballroom dancing, such as tango, salsa, rumba, cha-cha-cha and merengue are offered, as are country and various exercise dances are also offered.

Those interested are encouraged to call or visit his website at RuDanceLongIsland.com.

A grand opening dance party was planned Thursday night, with dance lessons from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. followed by a solo dance and performance from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Social dancing classes would be available for adults, while ballroom and Latin dance would be available for kids.

"Come to the Port Washington studio and enjoy life," said Ru's wife, Lulu. "We can dance together to share a happy life."
