The Chattanooga band The Afternooners is ready to release their debut album, Peace and Panic.
It contains 13 tracks written by the band. Eight of the tracks were recorded in Boston at Plaid Dog as a result of two separate trips there over the past two years.
One track was produced in Nashville at Blackbird Studio, while three tracks had their origin in Chattanooga with local producer Ivan Garcia of La Blanca studios. Not to mention a secret track recorded in the basement of a friend's house.
Band members say the 13 tracks vary in styles and you won't get bored while listening all the way through. The production is described as "a wild roller coaster of all types of songs, lyrics, and sounds, that came out of each member's head. The goal for the album's listening experience is this: never have a low point and to keep the listeners tuned in and hypnotized for its entirety."
The album release show will be May 8 at 10 p.m. atop the historic Southern Belle Riverboat as it floats down the Tennessee River on its relaxing nighttime cruise.

The Afternooners are "a local band with a wide variety of sounds, made up of five hard-working guys who love the music they make and play, and the city they were all born and raised in - Chattanooga. The music they play is built off of a mindset of introspective creativity, nothing being off limits, and outside-the-box thinking. The Afternooners strive to have every song of theirs sound different than the last, in hopes of resulting in a catalog of tunes from all varieties. A description of the music would be, alt rock to jam band to funk to dance to anything else you would wish to name."!
Members are:
Bryce Cronan - Lead Vocals/rhythm guitar
Blake Harmon - Drums/back up vocals
Ben Stephens - Keyboards/back up vocals
Brett Tallent - Bass guitar/ back up vocals
Brian Martin - Lead guitar/ back up vocals
Ben notes, "We didn’t plan for all our names to start with B’s, it just turned out that way by chance."
The band began with school friends, lead singer Bryce Cronan and drummer Blake Harmon, in the spring of 2016. They recruited keyboardist Ben Stephens in 2018. Ben then brought in bass player Brett Tallent the following year. By the end of 2019, Brian Martin, a good friend of the band and regular show attendee, joined the group. Since then The Afternooners have been working as a five-piece unit, composing songs, playing shows, and recording the album that’s soon to release.
