Officer-involved shooting on Corpus Christi's westside

Police said the man who was shot is in stable condition.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Crime scene investigators were called to a home in Corpus Christi's westside just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to investigate an officer-involved shooting.

According to police, they were investigating an armed robbery at the nearby HiHo convenience store. Police said a potential suspect made his way to a home in a nearby neighborhood and when he was spotted by an officer, he appeared to pull something from his waistband.

That's when the police officer shot the man and wounded him. He was taken to the hospital.

Police said the man who was shot is in stable condition.

According to chief Mike Markel, Tuesday's robbery is the second that has happened in the neighborhood.

Police revealed more details during a press conference Tuesday night.

"This individual turned out to not be one of the suspects involved in the robberies. I think it's very important we clarify that, I dont want the, nor does the family, want the neighbors and people that know him to think that he was involved in something that he was not," Markle said.

The officer involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave which is protocol when an officer fires their gun.
