SHERMAN, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a Mayville man was shot during an altercation and died overnight.
Officers responded to the shooting in the area of 114 W. Main Street in Sherman around 1:30 am Sunday.
According to investigators, 29-year-old Justin Gibbons was found at the location with multiple gunshot wounds. Gibbons was taken to Westfield Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that Gibbons was involved in an altercation with 25-year-old Julio Montanez, of Jamestown.
Montanez shot Gibbons multiple times while Gibbons was trying to run away from the area, according to deputies.
Montanez is charged with first degree manslaughter. He is being held in the Chautauqua County Jail pending his arraignment.
