2nd 'potentially armed' suspect in custody after search in Canton
A second "potentially armed” suspect is in custody after a search following a motor vehicle pursuit ended in Canton, state police said.
State police, K9, Air Wing, Boston police and other agencies searched near Ponkapoag Golf Course in Canton for a suspect who fled a motor vehicle following a pursuit, state police said.
Shortly after 10:30 a.m., a Massachusetts State Trooper spotted a vehicle wanted by Boston police traveling on Interstate 93 north in Braintree.
One of two men inside the silver Ford Edge had been reported to have displayed a handgun during an earlier encounter with Boston police, state police said. One of the men in the vehicle was located and arrested by Boston police after he had exited the vehicle, prior to the trooper seeing the vehicle, state police said.
The SUV exited I-93 north at Exit 5A onto Route 28 in Randolph, state police said.
The trooper and other units lost sight of the vehicle on Route 138 at Randolph Street in Canton before spotting it again a short time later on Reed Street, state police said. At some point while the trooper was following the suspect vehicle, the driver pointed a handgun at the trooper, state police said.
The vehicle pulled into a residential driveway on Turnpike Street and the man fled on foot, state police said.
A short time later, Canton police officers saw the man walking in the area and took him into custody.
The man, identified as Jaumell L. Clayton, 29, was transferred to custody of Boston police, who will seek charges against both men.
