PHOENIX – Construction has been completed on Abrazo Health’s third metro Phoenix microhospital, which is set to open soon in Cave Creek.

Adolfson & Peterson Construction, which started the 35,000-square-foot project in January 2020, announced Tuesday that the work was complete.

“Demand for microhospitals in the Southwest has continued to grow, and our ability to quickly construct and deliver a hospital like this one enables providers to meet their patients’ medical needs closer to home,” Scott Salyer, regional manager for the contractor, said in a press release.

The single-story facility is set to begin providing surgical procedures and 24/7 emergency room service in mid-2021, but no specific date has been set.

Abrazo has opened similar small-scale hospitals in Mesa and Surprise in recent years.

Located at 5227 E. Carefree Highway, the North Valley addition still must complete equipment and supply delivery and setup, hiring, training and certifications.

The facility will include a 13-bed emergency department, an operating room and eight inpatient rooms, along with diagnostic imaging, laboratory and other services.

“Abrazo Cave Creek Hospital will be the community’s hospital for emergency care, low-acuity surgical services and related care,” Sarah Bird, Abrazo nurse and administrative director, said in the release.

Abrazo’s metro Phoenix network also includes acute care hospitals, freestanding emergency centers, urgent care centers and physician practices.
