Following her high profile split from ex-husband Liam Hemsworth in summer 2020, Miley Cyrus struck up a romantic relationship with singer Cody Simpson.
Cyrus, who called time on her brief romance with influencer Kaitlyn Carter in September of the same year, was spotted on regular outings with her long-time friend Simpson, from coffee catch-ups and film nights to tattoo parlour visits and visits home to Nashville with her family.
Cyrus and Simpson – who is an Australian musician, singer, actor and University of Southern California's Trojan Swim Elite team competitor – have been close friends for years, with Simpson admitting that the singer is one of his ‘best friends’ in an interview with GQ in 2015.
‘Miley is one of my best friends and she helps with some of that transitional stuff – trying to escape your childhood,’ he told the publication. ‘She’s super open-minded and I’m working on becoming more like that.’
Over the years, the pair and their friends have enjoyed holidays to Miami and celebrated Simpson’s 18th birthday together with his ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid.
However, in August 2020, Cyrus confirmed that the two had broken up but vowed to stay friends with Simpson.

He said: 'It was kind of a mutual decision between us, knowing that we were sort of going in different directions in our life.
'I had just started training at that point, so my life was changing a lot and I knew I was going to have to eventually move back to Australia to do it properly and professionally. She was just going into her whole new album and was going to be going out on tour and doing all that stuff, so it was kind of a fork in the road kind of scenario, really.'
Simpson, who started dating model Marloes Stevens five months after his split from Cyrus, before they broke up, stressed that his and Cyrus' split was no-one's fault.
'[It's] a no hard feelings kind of thing,' he clarified.
'We were in different places. We had a great, amazing year together and everything. We lived together during all the Covid lockdowns and stuff. We had a lot of fun.'
January 2021: Cody Simpson receives negative comments online after going ‘Instagram official’ with Marloes Stevens
Simpson has received some heat from his fans for sharing a photograph of his new girlfriend, model Stevens, following his split from Cyrus last year.
On Tuesday January 12, the Australian singer shared a photograph of himself and Stevens on a boat together to celebrate his 24th birthday.
‘A day spent at sea is a day well spent. Let’s sail around the world before we lay to rest,’ he captioned the sweet photo.
Unfortunately for the new couple, the post garnered some negative attention from his followers who wrote in the comments section statements such as ‘#TeamMiley’ and ‘Miley is better’.
However, other followers supported the duo, expressing their love for the pair, congratulating them on their romance and sharing well wishes on the star’s birthday.
Stevens also shared photographs from the couple’s day out at sea, captioning her Instagram post: ‘Happy birthday to my favourite human. Life is an adventure and I’m happy to hold your hand as we walk through it together [sic] 24 looks good on you.’
The model’s post comes weeks after she shared a photograph of her and Simpson on Instagram at New Year’s, confirming their romance.
Last August, Cyrus confirmed her split from Simpson following a 10-month romance.

You know a relationship is done and dusted when both parties unfollow each other on social media, such is the path to officially moving on.
It appears Simpson has unfollowed Cyrus on Instagram, which comes days after he was photographed out looking cosy with his rumoured new girlfriend Marloes Stevens.
A deeper investigation shows that Cyrus has also unfollowed Simpson, with both singers removing almost all of their social media posts together since they struck up their romance last year.
Simpson has two posts relating to Cyrus - one referencing the song 'Golden Thing' he wrote presumingly about her and another of them standing in the bathroom together with the caption: 'Happy birthday baby. Thanks for being you.'
Meanwhile, the 'Midnight Sky' singer has removed all shots of her and the Aussie star together from her grid.
August 2020: Miley Cyrus confirms split from Cody Simpson
The sun has set on Miley and Cody's 10 month relationship, the 'Wrecking Ball' singer has confirmed.
On Thursday, August 13, reports surfaced claiming the couple had called time on their relationship. Cyrus then confirmed this in an Instagram Live with fans.
Reflecting on the fact it had been almost a year to the day that her separation from husband Liam Hemsworth was announced, Cyrus accused the media of once again 'trying to control my narrative' over her romantic life (following the split reports with Simpson) so clarified matters.
'Right now, two halves can't make a whole and we're individually just working on ourselves to become the people we want to be, like everybody else at this age we're deciding what we want to do with our lives so don't think it's some drama story.'
Cyrus confirmed the two will continue to be friends: 'If next week, we're hanging out or getting pizza, we've been friends for 10 years and we're going to continue to be friends so just don't make it something that it is not.'
Cyrus then said she was 'done with the bullsh*t' and proceeded to play her new song, 'Midnight Sky'.

The singer-turned-poet has opened up about his relationship with ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid and new romance with Miley Cyrus.
In a new interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, the singer spoke about the women in his life.
‘I owe a lot of my humility to these women,’ he told the publication.
‘My ability to make good decisions comes from the way I was raised: I don’t want to disappoint Mum or my grandmothers. They’ve shown me that being close to your mum and grandmothers makes you a better human.’
Speaking about his relationship with Hadid, with whom he was in a relationship from 2012 to 2014, he spoke fondly of the runway star.

It's hard to believe that these two lovebirds have only been together six months, but that's exactly the milestone the Aussie singer celebrated on April 1.
In honour of their big day, Simpson shared a photograph of his girlfriend dressed in black tracksuit bottoms and wearing face cream on his Instagram Story.

December 2019: Cody Simpson Refutes Cheating Claims
Cody Simpson has spoken out against rumours that he recently cheated on Miley Cyrus during a night out with friends.
In a statement released to E! News, the singer’s agent reportedly confirmed that ‘there is absolutely no truth to this story.
‘Cody went out with a friend and all the rest is fabricated. Period.’
The statement comes after the Australian crooner was seen out in New York City over the weekend with a source telling E! News that he was ‘dancing behind the DJ booth at Little Sister with a group of girls’ and one woman ‘kissed him on the lips’.

Weeks after being hospitalised with tonsillitis, Cyrus went home to recover after undergoing vocal cord surgery.
'The surgery went well and she is resting up at home now,' a source told People, adding that Cyrus 'has known for a while that she needed the surgery'.
The source explained that Simpson was by the 26-year-old’s side during the recovery process and that the singer would be required to rest her voice for several weeks while her vocal cords heal.

While it was unknown when the couple have gone 'official' with their friends and family with their new relationship, it appears their mutual pal Justin Bieber is incredibly excited at the prospect of a romance between the two.
On Tuesday October 8, Simpson posted a shirtless photograph of himself on Instagram with the caption: 'Mood caught after my first race back last weekend.'

The American star appeared to be wearing a grey Calvin Klein bra in the clip while the Australian swimmer was topless. The duo also used the Joker filter in the Instagram story days after Simpson said he wanted to see the new film and was thinking about dressing up as the comic book character for Halloween.
On Thursday October 3, one eagle-eyed fan spotted the pair kissing at an Los Angeles supermarket just days after having a coffee date together.
In response to news of the kiss and criticism of her moving on following her split from Carter last month, Miley defended her rumoured romance with Simpson.
‘Can a girl not get a f**king açaí bowl and a morning make out session in peace?!?!’ the Californian-based star began a post shared on Instagram Stories and Twitter the day after the kiss.
She continued, adding: ‘This “dating” thing is new to me too. Miley Cyrus was hospitalised with tonsillitis on Tuesday October 8 and shared a picture of herself in a hospital bed to reveal that her rumoured boyfriend, Simpson, was going to visit her.
‘BF coming to visit me @ the hospy [sic],’ the singer captioned the photo.
Cyrus then posted a video of the 22-year-old crooner playing a song on his guitar and serenading her.
In an Instagram Story post, Cryus explained that Simpson had written the untitled track for her.
‘It's too special to be only heard in full by my ears so I am currently pressuring him to DROP IT next week... & it's working [sic],’ she captioned the post.
The musician also brought roses for the ‘Slide Away’ singer.
