NE Ga notes: dean is retiring at UGA, registration ongoing at Athens Tech

The retiring dean of the University of Georgia’s College of Family and Consumer Sciences will be honored in a virtual ceremony, set for 4 o’clock this afternoon on Zoom: Linda Kirk is stepping down after ten years as dean of the school at UGA.

The new student registration and advisement that began Monday continues today at Athens Technical College campuses in Athens and Elberton: the first day of fall semester classes at Athens Tech is August 23.

Two Hart County men are in custody after a home invasion that is said to have happened earlier this month: Lanricas Brown is 29 years old; Lazateal Brown is 28; both suspects are from Bowersville.

Searchers have found the body of a missing boater, a fisherman who went into the water at the Cornelia Reservoir in Habersham County: Mark Hicks was 50 years old, from Baldwin.
