Some but not all members of Congress from the Kansas City area are going to be at Wednesday's inauguration.
Western Missouri's U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler will not be at Joe Biden's inauguration. Her office did not give a reason.
Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley's office says he will be at the ceremony. Hawley was the first senator to announce that he would object to the electoral college results. His clenched fist photo the morning of the Capitol attack has made him a political hot potato.
New Kansas senator Roger Marshall says he and his spouse, Lania, will be there. Marshall also objected to the electoral college results. On Tuesday, he stated that a second impeachment of Donald Trump after leaving office is unconstitutional. He says it will further divide the nation, adding that the United States should concentrate on beating the coronavirus and reviving the economy.
East Kansas' new congressman, Jake LaTurner, will be there. He also voted to object to the electoral college vote certification and he has just recovered from COVID-19.
Kansas City Democrat U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II is a long-time supporter of Biden. He's going.
So is Kansas Democrat U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids.
Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt may be highly visible in Washington, D.C., because he's chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on the inauguration. He will lead the Capitol Hill ceremonies. Blunt had the same post four years ago when Donald Trump was sworn in.
Kansas City's Mayor Quinton Lucas will be at the inauguration. The mayor's office said that he will be Blunt's guest.
