Boston Celtics star Kemba Walker was a picture of disappointment following his team's heart-wrenching defeat at the hands of the Miami Heat on Sunday night. After the season-ending loss, Walker was asked about his lingering knee issue, and how it may have been a factor in his performance throughout the playoffs.
Walker was quick to deflect the question, stating how that's now water under the bridge:
“Doesn't matter at this point,” Walker said, via Mark Medina of USA Today. Anything I tell you will be an excuse at this point.”
Kemba Walker did not exactly have a poor showing in Game 6 on Sunday, as the All-Star point guard finished with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, to go along with two rebounds, five assists, and just one turnover in 35 minutes of play. Then again, for the most part of Boston's run in the postseason, Walker did not really step up as the team's go-to superstar when it mattered most.
His knee problem likely played a huge role in Walker's performances, but as he said above, he's not in the mood to make any excuses right now. After all, what good would that do?
It was, nonetheless, a very encouraging debut campaign for Walker in Boston, after the 30-year-old joined the club last summer in a big-money sign-and-trade deal. He averaged 20.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists, in his first year as a Celtic, and while his numbers may have dropped from his time with the Charlotte Hornets, there's no denying that Walker will play a key part in Boston's title hopes for years to come.
