Preliminary investigation revealed that Boos took the boat west to enter the Great Egg Harbor Inlet, when they lost control and were both ejected, Goez told Patch. The boat continued unmanned to the beach.

A Coast Guard helicopter found Azzante, the passenger, who Ocean City Beach Patrol recovered. He was pronounced dead at the dock in Longport.
