Diplomats from 35 foreign embassies convened recently a high-level preparatory meeting at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) headquarters to discuss an upcoming security summit.
The envoys were taking part in an "ambassadors' roundtable" ahead of the IISS' 11th regional security summit: The Manama dialogue 2015, which will be held in Bahrain on October 30.
Key topics on the agenda for discussion at the four-hour long preparatory meeting included "the Middle East after the Iran deal" and "can Daesh be defeated or contained?". Bahrain-based IISS executive director John Jenkins and senior fellow for regional security Emile Hokayem chaired the meeting.
Minister urges schools not to overburden parents
Education Minister Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi issued directives not to overburden students and parents with back to school requests, such as expensive stationary items and other stuff.
He directed students to bring only what is necessary for their studies. Meanwhile, the Royal Charity Organisation has disbursed a cash school allowance to enable RCO-sponsored orphans studying at schools and universities to cater for all their school needs, including clothes, stationery and school stuff.
RCO secretary general Dr Mustafa Al Sayed said the schoolbag project aims at ensuring RCO affiliates have access to good education.
It is one of RCO's annual projects which aims at catering for the needs of students by providing them with a favourable educational climate to learn and excel. The organisation distributed recently, in cooperation with Zain company, 100 schoolbags on its affiliates nationwide.
Deputy King performs funeral prayers to honour martyred soldiers
The Deputy King, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, performed the Friday prayer and the funeral prayer (Salat Alghayeb) at Shaikh Isa Mosque in Riffa to pay tribute to the brave Bahraini soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty along the southern border of Saudi Arabia.
Prince Salman said that under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad, the Kingdom will continue to support the Saudi-led coalition forces' "Operation Restoring Hope" in order to restore security and stability in Yemen. He highlighted Bahrain's commitment to Arab and regional affairs and praised the Kingdom's armed forces' contribution to protecting regional security and stability.
He ladued the people of Bahrain for supporting the role of the Kingdom's armed forces in restoring stability and security in the region, and prayed to Allah Almighty to bestow his mercy on the martyrs and to rest their souls in eternal peace.
Successful participation in children festival in Russia
Bahrain's children have won appreciation in a children festival that was held recently at the International Children Centre in Russia.
Bahraini youth highlighted the country's heritage, customs, and development to more than 1,000 children from all over Russia.
Head of Bahrain's delegation, Dr Nabeel Al Asomi met Deputy Director of the Centre Alexander Vladimervyj to discuss future cooperation. Dr Al Asomi congratulated the centre for completing 90 years in serving the development needs of children. He thanked him for inviting Bahraini children to the event.
Bahrain was the only foreign country that participated in the festival with ten children that was held from August 10 to 30.
He said these are issues of regional and global significance and concern, and this preparatory meeting helps officials and IISS experts observe perspectives and expectations related to the issues of the hour.
