Teen Sentenced to 25 Years to Life for Deadly Home-Invasion Robbery in Pico Rivera

NORWALK, CA — A teenage boy who was convicted for his role in a deadly Pico Rivera home-invasion robbery orchestrated by the victim's son was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years to life in state prison.
Angel Emilio Estrello — who was 15 at the time of the crime and is now 17 — was convicted Sept. 2 of one count each of first-degree murder and first- degree burglary, along with two counts of home-invasion robbery.
Co-defendant Sergio Anthony Gutierrez — who was 17 at the time of the crime and is now 19 — was convicted the same day of first-degree murder and two counts of home-invasion robbery stemming from the Sept. 20, 2014, death of his 50-year-old father, Sergio. He is set to be sentenced Jan. 12.

The two were tried as adults before separate juries.
A third defendant, Jesus Rafael Adame, 20, is still awaiting trial in connection with the killing.

The elder Gutierrez was attacked about 1:35 a.m. inside his home in a gated community in the 3700 block of Oaklawn Lane. Cash, credit cards and the family vehicle were taken, prosecutors said.
The victim's son and Adame were picked up in a park the next day by Montebello police, and charged two days later with murder. Estrello was charged six days after the crime.
