Code Blue Warning In Effect As Temperatures Drop In Ocean County

The Code Blue declaration means warming centers will be open to provide shelter overnight for those who are homeless.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — As snow flurries moved through Ocean County on Tuesday and temperatures continued to fall, county emergency management officials declared a Code Blue warning for the overnight hours.

The Code Blue declaration means overnight warming centers and shelters will be open to homeless residents, with the availability beginning at 5 p.m., the Ocean County sheriff's office said. The centers will be open until 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to fall below 20 degrees on Tuesday night.

There are two warming centers in Lakewood. One is at Greater Bethel Church of God, 201 Martin Luther King Dr., and the second is at the Lakewood Community Center, 20 Fourth St., Lakewood.

Additionally, the Riverwood Park Recreation Center, on Riverwood Drive off Whitesville Road, will be open.

Shore Vineyard Church will provide transportation to the Riverwood Park shelter, leaving at 5 p.m. from the Ocean County Library at 101 Washington St., officials said.
