SWANSEA, MA—Swansea has retained its status as a high-risk community due to a sustained increase in positive coronavirus cases, according to Friday's data released by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Th town has been a coronavirus "red zone" since November 12, which means it has at least 10 average daily cases per 10,000 residents and a 5% positivity rate.

Friday's statistics reveal there have been 154 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Swansea over the past two weeks, bringing the town's total number of cases to 471. Swansea's average daily incidence rate has increased from 65.8 to 69 per 100,000 residents since last week and the town has a positivity rate of of 9.30%, a slight increase from last week's 8.87%.

The increase in COVID-19 cases in Swansea comes during a statewide increase in positive cases. The state reported 2.501 new cases and 46 deaths on Sunday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 217,163 and the total number of deaths among confirmed cases to 10,487.
