Largo Breaks Ground On Environmental Services Building

LARGO, FL – Building resilient communities includes attention to the physical infrastructure thatenables Largo to function effectively and efficiently. On Wednesday, the City of Largo Environmental Services broke ground on a new operations building to support this and the Largo Strategic Plan focus on investing in quality public infrastructure and ensuring public health and safety.

The new 13,187-square-foot wastewater treatment operations building has a construction cost of
$8,022,671 and will take approximately 18 months to complete. It will be the city's first category 5-rated building to withstand hurricane winds, and will be elevated 23.5 feet above sea level to protect from storm surge.

Largo Environmental Services worked alongside design and construction teams to ensure both
resiliency and sustainability were, quite literally, built into the new building plans. In addition to a state-of-the-art lab and new offices, the building will feature a solar-ready roof and an electric vehicle charging station.

Design and engineering plans and specifications for the new operations building were developed by McKim and Creed. Construction for this project is being provided by locally based Biltmore
Construction Company Inc.

The groundbreaking event will take place at 9 a.m. at Largo’s Wastewater Reclamation
Facility, 5100 150th Ave. N., Clearwater. The city will be streaming the event on Facebook Live.

The Environmental Services department collects, treats and recycles the city's sewer water.
