There are two major scooter companies in Corpus Christi -- Bird and Blue Duck.

Corpus Christi (KIII News) — The new electric scooters in Corpus Christi are a unique and fun way to get around the city.

Recently, there have been concerns about where people are using the scooters and leaving them.

Currently, the city council has an effort underway to regulate the scooter companies.

There are two major scooter companies in Corpus Christi --Bird and Blue Duck.

While the scooter companies are welcomed in Corpus Christi, they were unexpected from the city.

According to council member Debbie Lindsey-Opel, the first step is to figure out how the companies coexist in Corpus Christi by looking at cities like Austin or San Antonio.

The city is coordinating with the two scooter companies to come up with a pilot program to figure out regulations which will include the companies go through a registration process and have a licensing fee.

"And we are going to be reinforcing with the scooter companies how important it is to follow the rules and regulations that apply to our sidewalks and in our bike lanes," Lindsey-Opel said.

3News reached out to both companies and only heard back from Bird.

Bird released the following statement:

We look forward to continuing to build close partnerships with local leaders as we work together to improve mobility options in the city.
