Manama: Bahrain’s hallmarks of pluralism, multiculturalism and tolerance were highlighted as the son of the crown prince visited Indian families to mark the festival of Diwali.

“Bahrain celebrates its diversity as a source of strength, and this diversity is embodied in citizens’ and residents’ commitment developing Bahrain together,” Shaikh Mohammad Bin Salman Al Khalifa said as he visited the families of Gajria, Kewalram, Bhatia, Asarpota, Haridas, Ajay and Sharma.

“His Majesty King Hamad is committed to enshrining moderation, tolerance and pluralism within the Kingdom. These values have contributed to shaping an open and multicultural environment, which continues to promote cultural awareness and respect of universal values.”

Moderation and tolerance are two important values that have been upheld by Islam, and Bahrain’s long established multicultural and diverse society continues to foster religious and cultural understanding, Shaikh Mohammad added as he conveyed the greetings of Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and his appreciation of the families’ important contribution to Bahrain’s economy.

The Diwali-celebrating families said that they welcomed Bahrain’s cultural openness and long-standing support for religious rights and appreciated the continued support of Crown Prince Salman.

Bahrain is predominantly a Muslim country, but it is also home to Christian and Jewish Bahrainis.

The island kingdom is also home to a wide range of expatriates from several religious backgrounds. All communities have their places of worship and are allowed to practice their religion freely.
