Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), patronised the Bahrain Bourse last week marking Bahraini Women's Day, themed "Women in the Financial and Banking Sector".
Princess Sabeeka honoured long-serving women pioneers, as well as those who are holding high posts in the financial and banking institutions.
She also visited a photo exhibition depicting Bahraini women's work in the financial and banking sector throughout history, and the leadership positions they have reached.
Princess Sabeeka said that Bahraini Women's Day has become a key national occasion which offers an opportunity to document Bahraini women's march, adding that this year's edition is devoted to shedding light on the Bahraini women's achievements in the financial and banking sector and highlighting their success stories since they first joined it five decades ago.
She said that devoting this year's event to celebrating Bahraini women in the financial and banking sector was the result of the major accomplishments of Bahraini women, and their effective contributions to making Bahrain a leading regional and global financial centre.
Baca president granted Arab Woman Award
President of the Bahrain Authority for Antiquities and Culture (BACA) Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa has been granted the annual Arab Women Award for 2015 for her achievements in culture and education.
Shaikha Mai received the award during a honouring ceremony held in London on Thursday. Bace president affirmed that the award reflects the confidence conferred by the kingdom's leadership on Bahraini women, especially regarding the preservation of Bahrain's historical and humanitarian heritage.
Shaikha Mai pointed out that the Bahraini women, whose national day was celebrated recently have proved their outstanding capabilities in various fields. "History bears witness of Bahraini women's leading role and imprints in the social, economic and cultural fields," she said.
She thanked the organisers of the annual Arab Women Awards for their keenness to project to the world the civilisational image of the Arab World, amid the serious situation Arab countries are going through.
Supported by the Mayor of London, the Arab Women of the Year Awards 2015 is organised by the London Arabia magazine, in partnership with the Arab British Chamber of Commerce, London & Partners and the Council of Arab Business Women (CABW).
Bahrain Farmers Market kicks off on Saturday
The fourth edition of the Bahrain Farmers Market opened on December 5 at the Budaiya Gardens. More than 35 Bahraini farmers will participate to provide a variety of local agricultural products.
Many leading local restaurants will participate to present local food and drinks with the aim of introducing local food to the visitors of various nationalities.
Bahrain Farmers Market targets promoting Bahrain's agricultural products and highlighting the development taking place in Bahrain's agricultural sector. It also aims to contribute to improving the Bahraini farmers' income through a marketing system prepared by the Agriculture and Marine Resources to assist in meeting the farmers' aspirations. Bahrain Farmers Market will be open every Saturday until the end of April 2016, from 8am to 12 noon.
