Weekend College Top 10: W&J's Lauren Gilbert ties record with 40 points
Every Monday, the Tribune-Review will highlight 10 top area college performances from the weekend:
1. Gilbert ties W&J record with 40 points
Junior Lauren Gilbert (Baldwin) made 13 of 24 shots and 7 of 10 3-pointers, leading the Presidents past Waynesburg, 95-84, in a PAC game Saturday.
Her career-best 40 points tied Kelly Stacey (1990) and Denise DeSimone (1980) for the most in program history. It also is the most by a PAC player this season.

W&J (9-5, 4-2) is in the fourth place in the conference.
The Yellow Jackets dropped to 2-12, 1-4.
2. Triple-double lifts Duquesne women to win
Amanda Kalin (Pine-Richland) finished with 15 points, a career-high 12 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists as the Dukes routed La Salle, 82-56, on Saturday in the Atlantic 10.

It was the fourth triple-double in program history.
Duquesne (11-5, 1-2) ended a three-game losing skid.
3. 1st-place La Roche men edge Penn State Behrend on late basket
Darius Lawrence (Ambridge) hit a tiebreaking layup with 5.3 seconds left, and the Redhawks prevailed 57-55 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup Saturday.

The back-and-forth game included eight ties. It was a rematch of last season’s conference championship, which Penn State Behrend won. That was La Roche’s only conference loss last season.
Lawrence scored 12 of his game-high 17 points for La Roche (8-5, 8-0).
Tyler Frederick (Butler) added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Redhawks.
Penn State Behrend dropped to 9-4, 6-2.
4. Allegheny off to best start since 1997-98
Jordan Greynolds scored 20 points, and Caden Hinckley contributed 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists as the Gators eked out a 68-66 win over Kenyon in a North Coast Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Allegheny improved to 9-4, 3-3. The 1997-98 team, Allegheny’s last one to win a conference crown, also started 9-4.
Jordan Rawls (Taylor Allderdice) added nine points, eight rebounds and six assists in the victory. He had scored in double figures in 27 consecutive games.
5. Saint Vincent men escape with victory
Cletus Hilton made a basket with 17 seconds left, and the Bearcats edged Bethany, 67-66, on Saturday in the PAC.
Shemar Bennett finished with 22 points and 19 rebounds for Saint Vincent, which led for only 2 minutes, 47 seconds.
Hilton had 18 points for the Bearcats (9-5, 4-1), who remain in first place in the conference.
6. No. 9 IUP men dominate 2nd half, top Gannon
Armoni Foster scored 24 points, and Dave Morris added a career-best 19 as the Crimson Hawks prevailed 85-64 in a PSAC game Saturday.
First-place IUP (13-1, 8-1) outscored Gannon, 52-34, in the second half. It shot 70% (19 of 27), including 8 of 10 on 3s, in the final 20 minutes.

Gannon slipped to 6-7, 3-4.
7. Penn State men’s hockey gets better of Robert Morris
Nate Sucese recorded three assists — giving him 129 career points to move into first place in program history — as the No. 6 Nittany Lions downed the Colonials, 6-2, on Saturday.

Sam Sternschein scored 13 seconds into the game for Penn State (16-6), which led 4-0 after the first period.
Justin Addamo and Grant Hebert scored for Robert Morris (7-9-3).
8. No. 8 IUP women win key matchup vs. Gannon
Justina Mascaro (Bethel Park) scored nine of her 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Crimson Hawks beat Gannon, 62-48, for their 12th straight victory.
IUP (14-1, 9-0 PSAC) led 25-24 at halftime and used a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Courtney Alexander had 16 points for the Crimson Hawks, hitting 4 of 7 3-pointers.
Gannon dropped to 11-4, 7-2.
9. Waynesburg men stage big rally
The Yellow Jackets came back from a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat Washington & Jefferson, 76-72, in a PAC game Saturday.
Freshman Ryan Felberg scored a personal-best 22 points, and Frank Bozicevic added 21 for Waynesburg (2-12, 2-3), which scored 52 points in the second half.
W&J (8-6, 3-3) ended the first half on an 18-1 run to build a 47-33 lead at halftime.
Jonathan DeVito led the Presidents with 19 points.
10. Pegram joins 1,000-point club for Cal (Pa.) men
Junior Brent Pegram scored 30 points to eclipse 1,000 for his career, leading the Vulcans past Edinboro, 108-71, on Saturday.

He hit 7 of 10 3-pointers en route to his fourth game with 30 or more points this season. He ranks second in the PSAC with 20.8 points per game.
Zyan Collins added 17 points for Cal (10-5, 6-3).
Edinboro dropped to 5-8, 2-7.
