University of York degree graduation ceremonies - Day 2

Electronics student Luke Scott-Berry, 22, will be graduating with an MEng in electrical engineering, and under the supervision of Dr Adar Pelah, he developed the application which measures activity during the working day.

Luke received a “starred” First and a cash award for his project and, with advice from the university’s research and enterprise office, Luke plans to launch the application commercially.

Gerald Donga, 29, left his home in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, in pursuit of a degree, before moving to the UK in 2002 as an economic migrant.

He studied for a BSC in economics and finance through the Open University, and was given an unconditional offer on to the same programme in 2007 at the University of York as a mature student.

“In the end I achieved my ultimate goal. I made it with a 2:1 average final classification for my degree,” said Gerald.
He is now applying for jobs in finance, and studying accountancy.
