Alerts over medicines and health products have doubled over the past three years, with increasing wariness prompted by prominent litigation over breast implants.

The Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency issued 35 alerts in the past year, up from 17 three years ago.

The watchdog monitors medicines and devices to ensure their safety. It was launched in 2003 under the Department of Health and six years ago merged with the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control.
