CORNELIUS, NC (WBTV) - One person was seriously injured and another has minor injuries after a car went off the road Friday morning.

The crash happened on I-77 northbound near Catawba Avenue Exit 28 around 5:30 a.m.

Huntersville Fire Department said one of the I-77 Express signs was damaged and knocked off its base during the crash.

I-77 northbound near Mile Marker 25.8 was shut down until 10 a.m. as crews worked to safely remove the damaged structure. Drivers were advised to take Exit 25 in Huntersville to US 21 North to Catawba Avenue in Cornelius.
