BROOKLYN, NY — More than 160 affordable apartments are up for grabs in Central Brooklyn.

The 170 units are spread across two buildings, one in East New York and another in East Flatbush, that recently hit the city's affordable housing lottery.

In the East Flatbush building, found at 1488 New York Ave., 58 studio apartments are available as senior residences.

Applicants should be 62 years or older and can make between $0 and $39,800 per year. If a group of two are applying, the maximum combined salary jumps to $45,500.

"The project is located in the East Flatbush neighborhood where affordable senior housing is a critical need for the aging residents of the community," the city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development writes.

The building will include a senior center for the community that will be run by the Evangelical Crusade Christian Church.

In the East New York building, there are studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments available. There are groups of each type of apartment for those at the 30 percent, 40 percent and 60 percent median income level.

That means the salary requirement to apply ranges from $13,543 to $84,600.

The two buildings join several others in Brooklyn on the affordable housing lottery.

Those include a building at 260 Gold St., 834 Pacific St., 66 Linden St., 410 Tompkins Ave. and others.
