NEW BRITAIN, CT — A New Britain company was asked to leave the Chester Fair recently over a product the company was selling, according to FOX 61. Marcos Diaz of Ammo Crafters said he was approached by First Selectwoman Laura Gister at his booth who said she was offended by a T-shirt with an AR-15 rifle.

The positioning of the rifle next to a school bus may have been part of the issue. Gister reportedly told Diaz that it's because of symbols"like this that people want to go out and start up school shootings," WFSB reported.

Fair officials then reimbursed Diaz's vendor fees and escorted them from the fair. He told FOX 61 that he likely lost out on thousands of dollars by having to leave the fair early.

Gister said she approached Ammo Crafters as a civilian, not an official. She also said she went to fair officials to voice her concerns but it was their decision to remove Ammo Crafters, not hers.

Diaz said he believes his First Amendment rights have been violated, according to WFSB. He apologized for offending anyone but also is requesting an apology from Gister.

Ammo Crafters has received plenty of support on social media since the incident, FOX 61 reported.
