Former Head Of Pharmacy At Moccasin Bend

Walter Livingston Cochran Jr., 84, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2009.

Born in Collinsville, Al., on August 3, 1924, he was a member of the Greatest Generation. After graduating from Collinsville High School in 1941, he served in World War II with the 41st Infantry, first in the Pacific and then with the occupation of Japan. Before joining the Army he served in the Merchant Marines in the South Pacific. After the end of the war, he attended Auburn University where he graduated in 1950 with a degree in Pharmacy.

He was a member of the Pharmacy Rho Chi Honor Society. After moving to Chattanooga, he became the owner of the popular Professional Pharmacy located at 326 McCallie Avenue from 1954 until 1983. Later he was the Head of Pharmacy at Moccasin Bend Hospital until his retirement.

He was a member of the Centenary Methodist Church where he was a former member of the Board of Directors.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Jo Cochran; three sons, Walter L. Cochran, III, Murfreesboro, Tn., Charles Lee Cochran, Chattanooga and Joseph Lynn Cochran, Md., and his wife, Susan Schotta Cochran, Birmingham, Al.

There will be a private burial ceremony at 4 p.m. CST on Friday at the Historic Collinsville Cemetery in Collinsville, Al.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. CST on Saturday, at the First United Methodist Church in Collinsville, Al.
