Quitman man charged in drugs case

Investigators found a methamphetamine lab and multiple narcotics in the home of a Quitman man, according to a Cleburne County sheriff's office release.

The County Criminal Investigation Division received a tip that Branden Brewer, 43, was suspected of involvement in drug trafficking in May, according to the release.

Along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Heber Springs Police Department and 16th Judicial Drug Task Force, the division discovered that Brewer was making trips out of state and returning with drugs to the Cleburne County and Faulkner County area, the release said.

Arkansas State Police officers arrested Brewer during a traffic stop coordinated with the DEA on Oct. 23 near Malvern after finding 8 pounds of methamphetamine valued at $350,000 in the vehicle, according to the release.

Authorities obtained search warrants for Brewer's storage container in Heber Springs and his business in Cleburne County, and found a complete methamphetamine lab, $17,000 in counterfeit currency, materials used to make counterfeit currency, 34 firearms including 3 confirmed as stolen and $51,000 worth of additional narcotics, the release said.

Brewer was taken to the Pulaski County jail.
