NEWARK, NJ — There are eight people who have died from the new coronavirus in Newark as of Monday morning, Essex County officials say.

Authorities released an updated COVID-19 patient count for the entire county as of 9 a.m. In Newark, there were 294 cases, including eight deaths linked to the disease. (See the county-wide chart below)

As of Monday afternoon, New Jersey had a total of 16,636 cases and 198 deaths linked to COVID-19, according to the state health department.
