Anti-ragging awareness event

YAMUNANAGAR: An anti-ragging awareness programme was held at DAV Dental College, Yamunanagar. The chief guest of the programme was Dr Anil K Chandana, senior member of Dental Council of India; and the guest of honour was Kamlesh Pandit, District and Sessions Judge, Reasi, Katra, who happened to be in the town that day.

Yamunanagar: An anti-ragging awareness programme was held at DAV Dental College, Yamunanagar. The chief guest of the programme was Dr Anil K Chandana, senior member of Dental Council of India; and the guest of honour was Kamlesh Pandit, District and Sessions Judge, Reasi, Katra, who happened to be in the town that day. Pandit highlighted the legal aspect of the anti-ragging laws and regulations and the SC directions.  

Sports climbing contest begins 

Karnal: The 8th All-India IPSC Sports Climbing Competition began at Sainik School, Kunjpura, on Wednesday. The three-day event will witness competition among 52 participants from five renowned IPSC schools of the country — Welhem Boys' School, Dehradun; Sainik School, Balachadi, Gujarat; Emerald Heights School, Indore; Mayo College, Ajmer; and Sainik School, Kunjpura, Karnal. The competition is divided into three categories — sub-junior, junior and senior, and three events — lead climbing, speed climbing and bouldering. Chief guest Col VD Chandola, principal, Sainik School, Kunjpura, motivated the participants to garner not only skills but courage and confidence to excel in this sport.

Motivational talk at MDU

Rohtak: The challenges of life must be faced with courage, positivity and action-oriented approach. Life should not only be successful, but also be meaningful. This was stated by eminent motivational speaker Shailja Kavi, Viverkanand Kendra, Panchkula, in a special lecture programme organised in Maharshi Dayanand University. Kavi exhorted the students to work hard to achieve their life goals with sincerity. She quoted shlokas from Bhagwad Gita to inspire the students. Quoting Swami Vivekanand, Kavi said: “We all must try to lead a life of purpose.” MDU Vice Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh said each student posses unique potential. The need of the hour is to realise this potential. Students must try to develop moral values, ethical behaviour and life skills to be a rounded personality.” 

Workshop on genomics 

Karnal: A daylong workshop on genomics and nanotechnology in stem cells was held by the department of zoology and biotechnology of KVA DAV College for Women, Karnal. Sachinandan De, principal scientist, Animal Biotechnology Centre, NDRI, was the chief guest, who delivered an elaborate and informative extension lecture on genomics. Mohammad Rayees Rasool Dar, research associate, NDRI, delivered a lecture on the applications of nanotechnology in stem cells. In all, 80 students attended the lecture. Later, a workshop on genomics of some plants and animal tissues was organised. Devika and Manisha, research scholars of ABTC, NDRI, gave a demonstration and practical exposure to 25 biotechnology students.
