Minnesota United FC have yet to announce who will be head coach for their inaugural MLS season in 2017, but a few familiar names are in the running, according to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl.

Wahl reported on Wednesday that Minnesota, who failed to qualify for the NASL playoffs under first-year head coach Carl Craig this year, are interested in former Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid, Sporting Kansas City assistant Kerry Zavagnin and New York Cosmos head coach and former MLS striker Giovanni Savarese.

According to one of Wahl’s sources, the most likely scenario would see Minnesota hire a candidate who hasn’t been an MLS head coach before. That group would include both Zavagnin and Savarese, who won NASL titles with the Cosmos in 2013 and 2015 and reportedly was in the running for the Houston Dynamo head coaching position that recently went to Wilmer Cabrera.
