Stressed about running out of coffee? A subscription service may be a great way to avoid last-minute trips to the store.

With the world on pause thanks to the pandemic, many of us are skipping our daily trips to the local coffee shop to grab a caffeine fix. The good news? We can still make a delicious cup of Joe from our own homes, and coffee subscription services make this even easier.

Coffee subscriptions were trending before the pandemic hit. Early pioneers include Yes Plz and Bean Box which started as early as 2011 when the demand for single-origin coffee was on the rise, thanks to independent coffee roasters like Blue Bottle and Intelligentsia. But the pandemic has strengthened sales with U.S. coffee shops reporting subscriptions up 109 percent, according to a payment processor Square’s audit during lockdown. Here are some of our favorites.

Will Pratt, owner of Tandem Coffee in Maine, started subscriptions in 2013. His goal? To keep his customers coming back by using high-quality beans. 

“Our subscriptions have veered away from just coffee and into some of our other passions. We have a vinyl and coffee club called The Good Thing where we send all of our members a 12" vinyl record paired with a 12oz bag of coffee."

All the beans are roasted in New York with a strong focus on small-batch single-origin coffees, which are shipped within six hours of roasting.

The Onyx roastery is carbon neutral and powered by Solar Panels on their roof at their HQ and they use infrared gas burners, which reduce the use of natural gas by 60 percent.
