Haslam Appoints Alan Wilson To UT Board Of Trustees

  • Monday, November 19, 2018

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam Monday made his final appointment to the University of Tennessee Board of Trustees. Alan D. Wilson is the 12th member to join the reconstituted board following passage of the University of Tennessee Focusing On Campus and University Success Act earlier this year. The legislation restructured the UT Board of Trustees to enhance governance of the UT system.

Mr. Wilson retired in 2016 as chief executive officer, president and chairman of the board of directors of McCormick & Company, Inc., where he served in leadership roles for 23 years. He subsequently served as executive chairman of McCormick & Company until 2017. Before joining McCormick & Company, Wilson worked for nine years at Procter & Gamble. Mr. Wilson graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a bachelor’s degree in communications and is a veteran of the U.S. Army.

“Alan brings strong leadership experience to the board that will help advance the University of Tennessee,” Governor Haslam said. “He has a passion and dedication to the university that is hard to match, and I know he will be an effective trustee.”

Mr. Wilson is a recipient of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Distinguished Alumnus Award. He has been a guest lecturer for the UT College of Communication and Information and the Haslam College of Business, for which he serves on the advisory board. Mr. Wilson currently resides in Florida.

The reconstituted board includes alumni from different institutions across the UT system and at least two members from each grand division of the state. The board is comprised of 12 members including the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and a non-voting student member. A faculty member serves on the Education, Research, and Service committee of the board.

The appointment is effective immediately and subject to confirmation by the General Assembly.
