HOMEOWNER SARAH JA NE ALSTON SAYS IT'S HARD FOR VISITORS TO GET TO THE WALKWAY TO GO INSIDE. SHE SAYS IT'S BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM IN THE 48 YEARS SHE'S LIVED HE. RE CITY CREWS DID COME OUT ON CE TO CLEAR THE DRAIN. City storm drain clogged ahead of weekend soaking rains

A Jackson woman is looking for relief from a clogged drain at her home ahead of expected heavy rainfall this weekend.The clogged drain could result in a huge problem as 3 to 4 inches of rain is possible thanks to a tropical system that will hit the Gulf Coast. Standing water on Poplar Boulevard in Belhaven can be seen at the top of the storm drain, which is blocked by debris, leaves, and trash.Homeowner Sarah Jane Alston said it is hard for visitors to get to the walkway to go inside of her home. Alston said it has been a constant problem throughout the 48 years she has lived there.Jackson city crews did come out to clear the drain one time, but Alston said that did not last long."We've always just dug it out ourselves. I just tried our best. It's gotten bad this last year, it's been just terrible and it's built up to the point where nothing is going to happen," Alston said.When there is heavy rain Alston said the water covers half of the street and it does not quickly recede.Alston said she called the city about three weeks ago and reached out to Councilwoman Virgi Lindsay, but she said she has not gotten any help.The mayor’s office tells us this is a long-standing problem they are aware of it. They say it’s in the queue to be addressed.
