BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – National Hurricane Center is continuing to monitor a tropical wave near Cabo Verde Island off the west coast of Africa that includes a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

The system is moving to the west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph.

The conditions in the area make it a ripe time for further development and could become a tropical depression by later this week.

Experts are forecasting the system to have a 40-percent chance for further development in the next five days.
