PITTSBURGH, PA — There's a huge local void when it comes to southwestern Pennsylvania holiday lights shows this year. Kennywood's nationally-acclaimed Holiday Lights, in which the West Mifflin amusement park typically has on display two million lights and Pennsylvania's tallest Christmas tree, has been canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak.

But for those who love the sheer spectacle of a myriad of strung-together lights, options remain both locally and in areas outside of Pittsburgh if you don't mind driving. Here are some of the holiday light displays that will be operating this year:

Zoo Lights Drive-Thru, Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, select evenings from Nov. 27-Jan. 3.

The conservatory's glowing glasshouse will be filled with a canopy of twinkling lights, fragrant decorated trees and thousands of poinsettias in a wide variety of hues and patterns.

Beginning in 1985, the Winter Festival of Lights has grown into one of the nation’s largest holiday light shows, attracting more than one million visitors each year. Identified as one of the top light displays in the United States by countless travel companies and national publications, the Winter Festival of Lights features three hundred acres of lights over a six-mile drive. The display includes 90 lighted attractions boasting more than one million energy-efficient LED lights.

This two-mile display is synchronized with festive holiday music playing on your car radio. There's a 300-foot tunnel and a 50-foot well-lit tree. There's also giant LED displays of "The 12 Days of Christmas," with a comical spin on the traditional song.

Now in its 27th season, this drive-thru attraction is a one-mile experience of light displays in a wooded setting.
