Just 1 New Coronavirus Death Reported In MA, 174 New Cases

Massachusetts saw its lowest number of coronavirus deaths since no deaths were reported on June 30.

BOSTON — Just one new coronavirus death was reported in Massachusetts Monday, signifying the lowest number of deaths since zero were reported on June 30.

The Massachusetts Department of Public health also reported 174 new positive cases.

Many COVID-19 trends in Massachusetts are heading in a positive direction, including the number of people hospitalized with the virus, testing capacity, and the positive test rate. The number of hospitalizations dropped to 483, down from the peak of close to 4,000 in late April.

The number of people being treated for COVID-19 in hospital intensive care units increased from 64 Sunday to 67 Monday, but still remains much lower than the 93 one week ago. The number of people intubated also dropped from 43 on July 12 to 38.

The seven-day positive test rate was about 1.6 percent, which is a slight drop from the 1.7 percent it's been since around July 12, according to state figures.
