Program aimed at helping single moms with their finances
Dealing with money and making financial plans for the future are common hurdles many single mothers face.
The Financial Hope Collaborative at Creighton University is helping single moms deal with that challenge.
Over 650 women have graduated from the program since 2010. The program pairs single moms with financial planners. The group of women meet once a week. Dinner and childcare is provided.
Researchers at Creighton are looking into how the program positively impacted the health of the participants. Creighton researchers said half the program participants lost weight and many lowered their BMI.
They find their clients through word of mouth. There are certain qualifications people need to meet, and they have to be employed to be eligible.
