PHOENIX — An anonymous tip sent through Silent Witness led detectives to one of the suspects wanted in a smash-and-grab robbery at a jewelry store last month.
Phoenix police say two men wearing lime green construction vests entered the Watch and Save Jewelry near 46th Street and Thomas Road on May 26.
One of the suspects sprayed a clerk with pepper spray and lunged at two others, who ran out of the store.
The other suspect, later identified as Michael Mason, 26, smashed the display case with a crowbar.
The two men reportedly stole about $40,000 worth of jewelry.
After Silent Witness released surveillance photos, an anonymous citizen identified a man with the Facebook name "King lilmac" as one of the suspects.
Police connected that profile to Mason. Store workers identified Mason as a man who came into the store 12 days before the robbery to shop.
Mason was located and arrested on June 4 and allegedly admitted to the crime, saying he was hired and given $1,000 for the robbery.
