Liverpool and Arsenal make same Yves Bissouma approach as Brighton price tag reiterated

Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly two of the clubs interested in signing Brighton star Yves Bissouma.

Liverpool: Klopp says team must improve for top-four finish

Liverpool and Arsenal have both made "direct contact" regarding a summer transfer for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, according to reports. Bissouma is also attracting interest from Manchester City, who are claimed to have contacted the representatives of the Mali international.

Bissouma has been Brighton's standout player this season, with Graham Potter's side securing safety in the Premier League following Fulham's relegation on Monday.

Liverpool are in the market for a midfielder to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, who looks set to leave at the end of his contract this summer.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are in need of a major squad overhaul following their worst season in over 25 years.

Bissouma is claimed to be a boyhood Gunners supporter.

Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window podcast has reported both Liverpool and Arsenal's approach for the 24-year-old.

A fee of £30million has been bandied about in recent weeks and Castles has reiterated Brighton will be happy to sell for that price.

"My information is that both Liverpool and Arsenal have been in direct contact to explore the possibility of a transfer," Castles said.

"Manchester City have contacted the player's representatives and outside England Marseille also hold a strong interest.

"I think with Brighton they're pretty pragmatic about these things.

"They have a valuation on a player, they know that if the player has reached a level where Champions League clubs are serious about buying him that it's difficult to hold onto that kind of player, should they offer a sufficient transfer fee.

"My understanding is that if one of those clubs get to £30m in a pandemic-affected market, that should be enough for Brighton to say 'yes okay we accept it, you've served us well and we'll allow you to go elsewhere'.

"Brighton are preparing their summer transfer strategy in the expectation that Bissouma will be sold."

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes midfield is an area his former side must improve in amid rumours of a move for Bissouma.

"I'd like to see a little bit more inventiveness in and around, passing out from the back, that midfielder," Wright told Premier League Productions.

"I don't think Dani Ceballos is that guy. I do like someone like Martin Odegaard once you do get through those lines.

"But that's what they need to do, they need to get the energy and the passing coming through, quicker through the team, to get it to the players that can cause damage.

"I don't think that happens often enough, nowhere near enough."
