Dallas area athletes among top junior girls golfers competing for spot in LPGA tournament

Play begins Friday at Old American Golf Club.

Sixteen of the top junior girls golfers in the state will be competing this weeked for a spot in the LPGA’s Volunteers of America Classic.

The girls, who qualified through play on the Legends Junior Tour, the Northern Texas PGA’s All-American Tour, and the Southern Texas PGA’s Prestige Tour, will begin play Friday in the Volunteers of America Classic Girls Match Play Championship. They will play two rounds of match play Friday at Old American Golf Club, which will host the LPGA event Dec. 3-6. The semifinals are 1 p.m. Saturday and the final at 1 p.m. Sunday. The drawing for pairings will be held Thursday.

“As a junior golfer, to have an opportunity to qualify and compete in a LPGA event in your home state is a bucket list item,” NTPGA Executive Director/CEO Mark Harrison said in a press release announcing the event.

Aledo’s Cheyenne Knight, last year’s Volunteers of America Classic champion, played on the NTPGA All-American Tour and was a two-time Legends Junior Tour champion. The match play field:
