A 27-year-old Mount Vernon man will do time in state prison for possession of a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun with the serial number defaced.
A jury found Richard Johnson guilty following a trial Dec. 2, before Westchester County Court Judge David Zuckerman. On Jan. 15 he was sentenced prison time plus five years of post-release supervision:
- 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C felony -- 8 years in state prison
- 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, class D felonies -- 5 years in state prison on each count
All sentences will run concurrently.

Johnson was arrested Aug. 16, 2018, when Mount Vernon police responded to a 911 call on Hussey Road saying there was a man with a gun. Police found Richard Johnson and a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun with the serial number defaced.
Special Prosecutions Assistant District Attorney Janelle Armentano and Wendy Parra, Chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau, prosecuted the case.
