The Miami County Sheriff’s Department said it has recovered the body of a dock worker who drowned Thursday morning in Hillsdale Lake.
Capt. Matthew Kelly said deputies were called about 8:15 a.m. to the lake – which is located southeast of Interstate 35 and west of U.S. Highway 169 in Miami County – for a report of a man working on a dock who fell into the water.
Police said Andrew Jones, 23, of Gravois Mills, Missouri, fell into the water after suffering a medical emergency. Kelly said search crews recovered the body around 10:15 a.m. in the water near the lake’s marina.
Police said three of Jones' co-workers jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue him, but due to the combination of the water's depth and the dark color of the water, those efforts were not successful.
