ORLAND PARK, IL — A new business has opened in Orland Park with ties to well-known Chicago restaurant Baby’s Cheesesteak and Lemonade. Eggsperts Breakfast & Lunch Café, located at 9218 W. 159th St., opened its doors to the public after months of set back due to COVID-19 restrictions.

MJ Sughayer, part owner of the new restaurant and Orland Park native said the place was completely remodeled prior to opening, and that the restaurant was scheduled to open in late March prior to the stay-at-home order issued in Illinois.

“We were ready to open,” Sughayer said. “We started construction in 2019. We completely gutted this place and made it what it is today; an upper-scale breakfast, lunch café. From the booths to the ceiling, we even have marble tables.”

Sughayer said he has been in the restaurant business for over 20 years. With a pharmacy background, Sughayer said his father started Baby’s Cheesesteak & Lemonade when he was still a teenager.

“My father… may God rest his soul… started the cheesesteak restaurant years ago. It was a family business and now the cheesesteaks are known all over the Chicagoland area,” he said. “We grew up in the restaurant business thanks to my dad. We are very passionate about food. We eat to live and we live to eat. We are always joking where we will eat next.”

Sughayer said Eggsperts was created as a segue from Baby’s, to create a different kind of space for people to enjoy different kinds of foods.

"We are redefining breakfast," Sughayer said. “We do a nice chicken and waffle, breakfast pizza, vegetarian items, breakfast nachos… our number one item is our breakfast egg rolls with scrambled eggs and beef tenderloin. We even have 14 homemade sauces. You don’t see your typical breakfast and lunch here, this is a place to be unique.”

Sughayer also said that the coffee served at the new spot is made with fresh imported beans that are steamed and placed in a sealed bag before cooling. He also said that the milk is imported from a farm in southern Illinois.

“Our coffee station serves lattes and smoothies,” he said. “ We don’t add any added sugars or sweeteners. One of our popular drinks is a honey cinnamon latte, which sounds off until you try it. We all know honey is great in tea, but after having it in coffee, we joke we will never drink coffee with sugar again.”

The part-owner said that the goal of creating the restaurant was to have something on their menu for every person.

“We have Mediterranean-style breakfast, classic American style breakfast, gluten-free options… if you dream of a food we will create it for you,” he said. “People who go to the gym come in to get their protein shakes. We have a drink for everyone on this planet and that was the main goal of creating this restaurant; inclusion.”

According to Sughayer, with the COVID-19 pandemic in place, Eggsperts has guidelines customers must follow prior to dining.

“We take temperatures at the door. It might be the pharmacy in me, but we want people to feel safe. We have sanitizer in a variety of places around the restaurant,” he said. “You don’t have to touch the handle in the bathroom because we put a foot stand to open the door.”

Sughayer said Eggsperts has the restaurant fully disinfected before and after the weekend, along with cleaning during the week.

“We're all in the same boat. We're all in this little bubble right now,” he said. “Sports brings everyone together, but I think food brings everyone together. At Eggsperts, we just want to bring everyone together and enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience.”

The restaurant is open from 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. For more information on Eggsperts Breakfast and Lunch Café, visit their Facebook Page.
