2 food delivery drivers robbed at gunpoint in West Chester
West Chester police are investigating after two food delivery drivers were robbed at gunpoint.
The drivers worked for Marco's Pizza in Springdale and New China in West Chester.
The two incidents were reported to police one night apart last week and happened close to each other, a minutes' drive apart.
Police believe the incidents are connected.
Lisa and Hong Zheng own New China and said this is the first time one of their employees has been robbed in the 13 years the restaurant has been open.
Hong Zheng was delivering an order to a home on Queenswood Court when he was approached in the parking lot by an unknown person.
"Once my dad came out the car, he immediately came out with a gun, put him at gunpoint," Zheng's son Brian Zheng explained. "Took the food. He also asked him if he had any money on him, searched him, but my dad didn't carry any so he just let him go."
The owners believe the person who called in the order set up the robbery. Hong Zheng described the suspect as a skinny black man with dreadlocks, wearing a mask.
The order was placed close to closing time and totaled about $65.
"He said he was very hungry, so he was going to order a lot of food or something," Brian Zheng said.
Police suspect the same man robbed a Marco's Pizza delivery driver at gunpoint the night before. That suspect got away with $80 in cash after an armed robbery on Aster Park Drive. The location is just a few minutes from where the other robbery occurred.
Neither delivery driver was injured in the robberies.
"He's saying he still feels scared," Brian Zheng said. "He's scared of delivering at this point. If it gets too dark outside or too late, he doesn't really want to do it."
The Zhengs said they have been declining orders late at night where the customer asks to pay in cash.
West Chester police continue to investigate the incidents and are not yet releasing a detailed description of the suspect.
