POLICE NEWS: Company alleges check fraud on business accounts

An Elkhart company was the victim of an apparent forgery scheme last year.

Staff at Best Formed Plastics reported to Elkhart County police Tuesday fraudulent checks were created and cashed through business accounts at the company, 21209 Protecta Drive, around Aug. 2, 2018, according to a police report.

The case is under investigation.

ARRESTS

• Jeffrey Hobson, 48, homeless, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police and jailed on a charge of theft after police responded to a call to Target, 3938 Midway Road, around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

• Crystal Prince, 37, Mishawaka, was arrested by Goshen police and jailed on charges of theft and false informing after police responded to a call to Kohl’s, 3802 Midway Road, around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

• Nicholas Easley, 30, 314 W. Oakridge Ave., Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at his home around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday. Easley was released at the scene with a citation to appear in court.

• Goshen police arrested a 14-year-old girl on charges of domestic battery and being incorrigible after police responded to her home in the 1700 block of Palmetto Lane around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday. The girl was released to her mother with a citation to appear in court.

COUNTERFEITING

Staff at Ben’s Soft Pretzels reported to Goshen police a customer tried to pay with a counterfeit $50 bill at the store in Walmart, 4024 Elkhart Road, around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday.

THEFTS

• Dannald Barnett, Elkhart, reported to Goshen police his vehicle was stolen while it was parked in the lot at Meijer, 4522 Elkhart Road, around 5:50 a.m. Wednesday.

• Willard Thomas, Goshen, reported to Goshen police items were stolen from his vehicle while it was locked and parked in the driveway of his home, 1013 S. 11th St., around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

• Melissa Coverstone, Goshen, reported to Goshen police Tuesday her trash can was stolen from a home, 405 Sunset Blvd., on Jan. 2.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

Tamara Soultz reported to Goshen police her SUV was vandalized while it was parked at a home, 301 S. Seventh St., around midnight Tuesday.

ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE

Joseph Hershberger, 39, Goshen, was deemed absent without leave after staff at the Elkhart County Work Release Center in Goshen reported to Elkhart County police he failed to return to custody on Monday.
