Manama: In a glowing tribute, Bahrain has named an avenue in Manama after former Saudi foreign minister, the late Prince Saud Al Faisal.

The avenue links the King Faisal Highway, a ring road named after Prince Saud’s father, to Juffair, one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan areas in Manama.

Prime Minister Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa opened the avenue honouring the memory of Prince Saud, who was highly respected in Bahrain, following directives from King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa.

The ceremony was attended by the Adviser to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Makkah Governor Prince Khalid Al Faisal and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies, Prince Turki Al Faisal.

In his remarks on the occasion, Prince Khalifa said that words were not sufficient to list the qualities and achievements of the late Prince Saud and stressed that he had always defended his country and nation courageously and was a genuine model of dedication who deserved all love and respect.

The Bahraini people would never forget the late Prince’s historic and honourable stances in support of Bahrain and in defence of its security and stability at all regional and global gatherings, Prince Khalifa said. The naming of an avenue in Manama was a token of gratitude for his support and courage in defending Bahrain’s interests under all circumstances, he added.

“The Kingdom of Bahrain’s relationship with the late Prince Saud embodies a state of mutual love for a man who used his outstanding diplomatic capabilities to be the voice of the right, and therefore he deserves to have his memory recorded in the minds of Bahrainis forever,” he said.

Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammad Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, who as a former foreign minister worked closely with Prince Saud for years, said he was proud at the recognition of the Saudi minister’s pivotal role in strengthening bilateral relations, adding that his honourable stances would be highlighted in history.

Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmad Al Khalifa said that Prince Saud enjoyed “a distinguished status in the hearts of all Bahrainis for serving his country, the Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Arab and Islamic countries and the whole world”.

He highlighted the late Prince’s honourable stances towards Bahrain’s stability and security under all circumstances and at global gatherings.

Shaikh Khalid recalled how the kingdom had honoured Prince Saud’s father, the late King Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz, in 1976 by naming one of Manama’s most vital highways after him.
