HHCD's 2018 Community Sustainability Awards

Jackie Taylor Holsten, Founder & Chair of the Board of HHCD (not for profit) and Peter Holsten, CEO of Holsten Real Estate Development, will host the 2018 Community Sustainability Awards to be held Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in Kasbeer Hall at the Corboy Law Center of Loyola University on East Pearson Street. Peter Holsten is known for his development of affordable housing in fourteen communities around Chicago, including the developments that replaced Cabrini Green, and he was profiled on 60 Minutes for his unique approach to providing housing for low-income residents. Holsten Real Estate is partnering with the not-for-profit HHCD to develop Lawson House, on Chicago Avenue, which currently houses over 400 residents.

“For the past eight years, HHCD has honored individuals who are committed to encouraging, guiding and providing support to the communities and families we serve, while instilling the never-give-up attitude needed to succeed. This year, we have chosen to honor two groups: those that helped us grow through art and architecture, and residents who have given time or talent to help others while demonstrating what community means” comments Jackie Holsten.

Ms. Holsten continues, “In 2018, we are honoring architects Chris Lee, Pete Landon, and Doug Farr – and art salon owner Laurie Glenn -- each of whom has been instrumental in the growth of our not-for-profit and in the development of the low-income communities we serve.” Previous honorees have included Gene Jones (CHA), John Markowski (Community Investment Corporation) and Julia Stasch (MacArthur Foundation). Holsten Human Capital Development (HHCD) is a 501c3 non-profit organization with the mission of strengthening at-risk populations by expanding their access to viable resources that promote self-sufficiency, wellness, and stability. The agency provides social services to nearly 3,000 residents (low-income families, seniors, and single adults) of fifteen newly-built or rehabbed housing communities on the south, west and north sides of Chicago, and also Riverwalk Apartments in Joliet. HHCD works daily to empower clients to reach personal goals to improve their lives and their communities.
