Area volleyball roundup: Huskies nudge Raiders in 5 sets

EMERY -- Bridgewater-Emery edged past Gayville-Volin in five sets on Thursday. Set scores were 24-26, 25-22, 25-18, 22-25 and 15-6.

Bridgewater-Emery (16-2): Julia Weber paced the Huskies with 28 kills, 23 digs and two aces. Kerrigan Schultz stuffed the stat sheet with 47 assists, 19 digs, six kills and two aces. Casey Meyer added 11 kills and 11 digs. Cara Meyer and Sara Hofer finished with 25 and 22 digs, respectively, and Taylor Schallenkamp added 12 kills. The Huskies play Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Oct. 23 in Forestburg.

Gayville-Volin (12-1): Molly Larson chipped in 34 digs in the loss. Keeley Larson dished out 40 assists. Kayla Vanosdel recorded 17 digs and 14 kills. Sam Olson put down 21 kills and Jadyn Hubbard added 17 digs. The Raiders travel to Burke on Tuesday.

KWL 3, SCW 1

WHITE LAKE -- After dropping the first set, Kimball/White Lake won the next three and down Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Thursday. Set scores were 19-25, 28-26, 25-10 and 26-24.

Kimball/White Lake (11-3): Kennedy Leiferman finished with 20 kills, 15 digs, four blocks and three aces. Ryann Nielsen added 27 assists and four aces. Alison Sinclair put down seven kills. Dani Deffenbaugh posted 18 digs, six kills, three blocks and two aces. The WiLdKats play Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Monday in New Holland.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (7-9): Trista White posted 22 digs, 11 kills and four aces. Morgan Schmiedt logged 19 assists and 16 digs. Brooke Doering recorded eight kills, six digs and three blocks. Cassidy Slykhuis recorded seven digs, six kills and four blocks. The Blackhawks play Hitchcock-Tulare on Tuesday in Woonsocket.

Menno 3, Mitchell Christian 1

MENNO -- Menno took down Mitchell Christian in four sets on Thursday. Set scores were 22-25, 25-18, 25-14 and 25-22.

Menno (7-9): Jesse Munkvold led the Wolves with eight kills and 30 digs. Bridget Vaith finished with six kills and two blocks. Madelyn Heckenlaible posted six blocks, five kills and three digs. Kylie Harriman added 24 digs and nine assists. Kaylie Schempp logged 20 digs. The Wolves host Alcester-Hudson on Saturday.

Mitchell Christian (2-11): Maggie Reyney finished with 20 digs, seven kills and three aces. Kaitlyn Tegethoff posted five kills and three blocks. Erica Thompson finished with 14 assists and 12 digs. Keely O’Neill posted 15 digs. Mitchell Christian plays Iroquois/Doland on Tuesday in Iroquois.

Platte-Geddes 3, Chamberlain 0

PLATTE -- Platte-Geddes picked up a three-set victory over Chamberlain on Thursday. Set scores were 25-11, 25-15 and 25-17.

Platte-Geddes (13-3): Karly VanDerWerff led the Black Panthers with 19 kills and nine digs. Cadence VanZee finished with 12 digs and seven kills. Avery DeVries posted 23 assists and eight aces. Regan Hoffman added 12 digs and three aces. Taryn Starr put down five kills. The Black Panthers play Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Monday in Armour.

Chamberlain (1-11): Kiera Eichstadt finished with five assists. Mya Knippling posted four kills. The Cubs travel to Kadoka Area on Monday.

Burke 3, Gregory 0

BURKE -- Burke earned its 10th win of the year as it swept Gregory on Thursday. Set scores were 25-15, 25-16 and 25-22.

Burke (10-7): Bobbi Jo Wischmann dished out 23 assists to go with five kills and two blocks. Adisyn Indahl had a team-high nine kills, along with nine digs and three aces. Elle Johnson served four aces. Ramee Hanson chipped in 11 digs and eight kills. Sally Hakin added two blocks. The Cougars host Gayville-Volin on Tuesday.

Gregory (5-12): Brynn Hylla dished out 15 assists and 10 digs. Jessy Jo Vanderwerff had 17 digs and seven kills. Brooklynn Kenzy added seven kills and Anna Dargatz served four aces. The Gorillas play in the Southeastern South Dakota Conference tournament on Oct. 24 in Platte.

Wagner 3, ACDC 0

LAKE ANDES -- Wagner earned a sweep over Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Thursday. Set scores were 25-7, 25-17 and 25-15.

Wagner (7-1): Abby Brunsing paced the Red Raiders with 14 kills, eight digs and four kills. Ava Bruguier put down eight kills, eight digs and three aces. Macy Koupal dished out 30 assists and served three aces, while Olivia Breen added 11 digs. The Red Raiders host Parker on Saturday.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (0-9): Mackenzie Muckey finished with nine digs and four assists. Lexie Vanderpol chipped in nine kills and five digs. Claire Johnson recorded eight digs, while Keeva Weddell added four digs, three assists and two aces. The Thunder play Kimball/White Lake on Monday in New Holland.

Winner 3, Corsica-Stickney 0

WINNER -- Class A No. 5 Winner knocked off Corsica-Stickney in straight sets in prep volleyball action on Thursday. Set scores were 25-23, 25-17 and 25-22.

Winner (13-4): Ellie Brozik finished with 19 kills and three aces. Kalla Bertram finished with 15 kills, while Mackenzie Levi added 39 assists. Jenna Hammerbeck added 19 digs and Maggie LaCompte posted 18 digs. The Warriors host Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Monday.

Corsica-Stickney (13-3): Raven Barse led the Jaguars with 13 kills, while posted seven kills. Sutten Eide dished out 19 assists and had 10 digs. Avery Broughton and Morgan Clites recorded 12 and 10 digs, respectively. The Jaguars play Avon on Tuesday in Corsica.

Ethan 3, Hanson 0

ETHAN -- Ethan took down Hanson in straight sets on Thursday. Set scores were 25-12, 25-10 and 25-12.

Ethan (8-6): Bella Nesheim put down 15 kills and 21 digs. Lexi Lingemann added 24 digs, four blocks and three aces. Ava Lingemann added 24 assists and three aces. The Rustlers play in the Northwestern tournament on Saturday in Mellette.

Hanson (4-11): Annalyse Weber had a team-high 10 digs. Jalyn Kampshoff served five aces and Abby Kortan added seven digs. Andrea Thelen finished with three kills. The Beavers play Irene-Wakonda on Saturday in Wakonda.

Colome 3, White River 1

COLOME -- Colome picked up its 10th win of the season with a four-set win over White River on Thursday. Set scores were 25-13, 16-25, 25-23 and 25-22.

Colome (10-4): Makayla Shippy served six aces to go with 29 assists and 16 digs. Saydee Heath put down a team-high 12 kills and had three blocks. Baylie Hoffine added 23 digs, while Libbie Petersek added 17 digs and 12 kills. Elizabeth Yeaman chipped in 10 kills. The Cowgirls host Jones County on Tuesday.

White River (11-6): Karlie Cameron put down eight kills and added 31 digs, while Remedy Morrison finished with 31 digs. The Tigers travel to Faith on Saturday.

Avon 3, Centerville 0

AVON -- Avon swept Centerville in prep volleyball action on Thursday. Set scores were 25-10, 25-11 and 25-23.

Avon (9-4): Hanna Miller finished with 11 kills, while Ali Sees added seven kills and four digs. Shalayne Nagel recorded five kills and two blocks. Reese Powers dished out 10 assists, while McKenna Kocmich logged 12 assists and four digs. The Pirates travel to Ethan on Monday.

Centerville (3-13): Ellie Hunter led Centerville with four kills, while Bailey Hansen finished with five digs, four assists and three kills. The Tornadoes travel to Colome on Oct. 23.

Philip 3, Lyman 0

PRESHO -- Philip earned a straight set win over Lyman on Thursday. Set scores were 25-13, 25-11 and 25-12.

Philip (10-7): Rainee Snyder and Copper Lurz both had seven digs, while Lurz also put down 15 kills. Jaida Haynes and Dymond Lurz both served three aces. Haynes also had a team-high 11 assists. The Scotties host Bennett County on Tuesday.

Lyman (1-11): Ellie Erikson finished with 10 digs, while Drew Lulf added five assists and two blocks in the loss. The Raiders travel to Stanley County on Monday.

Wolsey-Wessington 3, Wessington Springs 0

WOLSEY -- Wolsey-Wessington cruised past Wessington Springs for a straight set win on Thursday. Set scores were 25-15, 25-15 and 25-8.

Wolsey-Wessington (6-7): Lainey Uttecht had a team-high 15 digs, while Hailey Clarke dished out 18 assists. Alyssa Hiles served four aces and Mya Boomsma put down 14 kills. Leah Williams added 11 kills and Taylor Horn finished with 14 assists. The Warbirds play Potter County on Saturday in Gettysburg.

Wessington Springs (5-10): Maddie Privett recorded 17 digs and Avery Orth had three blocks. Alyssa Grohs dished out six assists. The Spartans host Sunshine Bible Academy on Monday.
