Bulldog Tutors Demystifies College Admissions in Madison Event

MADISON, CT - Jessica Magro, Director of Admissions Consulting for Bulldog Tutors and a Yale University graduate, will demystify the college admissions process in a free presentation June 25th in Madison, Conn., offering invaluable insights to students and parents.

Sponsored by the Scranton Memorial Library in Madison, the presentation takes place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the North Madison Congregational Church. Guests may register online via the library’s events page, which is preferred, but drop-ins are welcome.

“It’s never too early or too late to be thinking about this,” says Jessica, who has years of experience counseling high school students—from freshmen to seniors—on the intricacies of the admissions process, as well as providing tutoring and test prep, including for the SAT.

Jessica knows firsthand how frustrating the college application process can be and what it takes to gain admission to a top college or university, having been accepted by all five Ivy League universities to which she applied—Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth, Brown, and the University of Pennsylvania. She has been guiding students through the process ever since, and students she’s worked with have gone on to attend highly competitive schools, including MIT, UC Berkley, NYU, and George Washington University, as well as Ivy League universities like Yale, Princeton, and the University of Pennsylvania.

While achieving SAT scores that meet or exceed the median benchmark of a preferred school is important, Jessica unlocks details of many other critical aspects to building a well-rounded, accomplished profile necessary for students to become the type of candidates Ivy League schools and other top colleges and universities are seeking—and that goes far beyond grades and test scores.

“A great way to avoid panicking is to start the process early,” Jessica says. “If the long-term goal is to be admitted into some of the most competitive universities in the country, you need to start by freshman year, even 8th grade. “Making sure you know the questions to be asking is half the battle.”

Key issues linked to those questions include learning how to build a balanced college list with schools that are a good fit and academically excellent, while also being schools where a prospective student can gain admission and excel.

“If the goal is Harvard and Yale, they should definitely come to the presentation and learn how to package themselves for success,” Jessica says, noting that her presentation applies to students of varying levels of accomplishment and preparedness, as well as grade levels. The best practices for achieving admissions goals simply differ for students based on their particular set of circumstances.\

Jessica earned perfect scores on both the SATs and SAT Math 1 Subject Test, and she was an AP Scholar and National Merit Finalist. Jessica was also awarded the prestigious U.S. Congressional Bronze Medal and was a U.S. Presidential Scholar chosen to represent Rhode Island—one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.

She graduated from Yale University with Distinction in the History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health. At Yale, Jessica was the publicity coordinator and actress for Yale Children’s Theatre, the captain of the Yale Pistol Team, and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

“We were incredibly lucky to have Jessica as our daughter’s tutor for SAT prep,” one parent wrote in a note of thanks. “Our daughter (a junior in high school) not only enjoyed every session with Jessica, but she scored a near perfect score on her SAT.
