Central Falls Limits Restaurants and Bars to Take-Out and Delivery Only
Monday, November 16, 2020
On Monday, Central Falls Mayor James Diossa signed an Executive Order limiting restaurants and bars to take-out and delivery only. The Order takes effect on Thursday, November 19, 2020 until November 30, 2020.
Diossa cited the alarming increase in the number of COVID cases impacting Central Falls residents as a basis for his Order. Based on data collected and analyzed by the Rhode Island Department of Health and the Central Falls Office on Health, the rate of new cases in Central Falls jumped to 729 cases per 100,000 per week since Wednesday, November 11, 2020.
“The second wave of COVID-19 is proving to be brutal to our state; but especially harsh in our city as Central Falls residents continue to suffer a disproportionate burden of disease,” said Diossa. “Restrictions like these are difficult for businesses and workers, but we must do everything we can to preserve the health and safety of our residents and to preserve human life."

Over the weekend RI recorded nearly 2,500 new cases of the virus.
Based on the recommendations from the Central Falls Office on Health, Mayor Diossa issued Executive Order 2020-0013 which states that restaurants and bars may continue to operate, but with take-out and delivery only: no on-premise consumption will be allowed. The policy rationale for this Order is the inability for those within bars and restaurants to consume food or drink without removing their masks, which opens other customers to possible transmission.
The restriction lasts from November 19 through November 30. Restaurants are still encouraged to provide a take-out or delivery option for customers in accordance with the social distancing protocols and guidance set forth by RI Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control.
